Tagetes

Professional Tagetes seeds for commercial floriculture

The genus Tagetes holds a vital position in commercial flower cultivation. For professional growers, choosing the right starting material is decisive for crop success. The seeds in the Muller Seeds catalog are selected according to strict quality criteria. This guarantees rapid germination and uniform emergence, which are essential for efficient scheduling in the greenhouse or field.

In the professional market, a primary distinction is made between two main species: Tagetes erecta and Tagetes patula. Tagetes erecta represents the tall, large-flowered African marigold type, whereas Tagetes patula represents the compact French marigold type. Both species serve different commercial purposes and require specific varietal characteristics that match the requirements of your buyers, such as garden centers, wholesalers, and florists.

Tagetes erecta for cut flower production

Tall varieties of Tagetes erecta have experienced a surge in popularity within the cut flower sector. Featuring strong, long stems and large, spherical flower heads, these varieties offer premium ornamental value for high-end floral design. For the professional cut flower grower, traits such as stem sturdiness, uniform stem length, and long vase life are paramount.

The varieties in our portfolio are bred to withstand transport and handling throughout the logistical chain. As a result, the blooms maintain their quality from harvest at the nursery through to display in the florist shop. Furthermore, vibrant colors ranging from deep yellow to warm orange provide an attractive product that meets current market demands.

Tagetes patula for pot and bedding plant growers

For growers focusing on pot and bedding plant production, Tagetes patula provides the ideal solution. These compact varieties are characterized by dense branching and an abundance of blooms. In large-scale plant production, uniformity in plant habit and flowering time is indispensable. Seeds from Muller Seeds ensure simultaneous flowering, enabling batches to be processed efficiently for market delivery.

Beyond their ornamental appeal, Tagetes patula varieties play a significant role in integrated cropping systems. Several selections are renowned for their nematicidal properties, particularly against the root-lesion nematode Pratylenchus penetrans. This makes the crop not only commercially viable as an ornamental plant, but also valuable as a biological soil conditioner within crop rotation plans.

Quality and seed technology for the B2B market

As a wholesaler, Muller Seeds understands that sowing efficiency directly affects your operational yield. To satisfy the demands of automated nurseries, we offer specialized seed treatments. The choice between raw seed and pelleted seed depends on your specific machinery and growing methods.

Pelleted seeds feature a uniform coating that rounds off the elongated shape of natural Tagetes seeds. This prevents clogging in pneumatic sowing machinery and ensures highly accurate placement in plug trays. Consequently, losses are minimized and a highly uniform plant stand is achieved.
