Helianthus

The botanical name Helianthus originates from the Greek language and is a combination of two words. Helios stands for sun and anthos means flower. The literal translation is therefore sunflower. This name refers not only to the appearance of the flower, which resembles the radiant sun, but also to the well-known phenomenon of heliotropism. This means that the young buds and leaves of the plant turn from east to west during the day with the position of the sun, in order to capture solar energy as optimally as possible.
